Nicole Kidman and Chris O'Donnell give decent support, as do the returning Pat Hingle and Michael Gough. Jim Carrey is over the top but in a fun way, and hes very entertaining to watch. He was let down by the script, put him in a serious Batman film and he'd be considered the best. He is also the best Batman, he looks the part, has the right voice and the dark look. His Bruce Wayne had the haunted feel to him while also being a suave playboy. Kilmer is horribly underrated in the Batman world. The best thing about the film is Batman himself, Val Kilmer. Yet take it for what it is and Batman Forever is great. Tim Burton's gothic soul and gloomy city has been replaced by something more colourful and lighter. But as a Batman film its not what we should expect. From a pure entertainment stance it doesn't get better than this. It brings a nostalgic feeling to me that not many films do. I have to admit, Batman Forever is my ultimate guilty pleasure film. If you want to buy this film - which I wholeheartedly recommend - this is not the version you want. It's as though this DVD was made from a made-for-tv version that had certain shots cut for time, and that is very sloppy. A very vital part of Stickley's last scene, for instance, has been cut out, as well as certain other moments. Why? Because certain moments of the film have been cut out.
All of this makes Batman Forever a worthwhile, entertaining adventure movie that holds its own under repeated viewings. The only notably bad performance is the security guard at the beginning of the movie. Finally, Michael Gough is excellent as Alfred. Only a good actress like Nicole Kidman could've given such depth and appeal to what could've been a very cardboard character. Chris O'Donnell gives a solid, emotional performance that makes us feel for the character's plight. Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey might be said to ham up their roles a bit much at times, but they do it with such charisma and character that all is forgiven. The cast all deliver their performances well Val Kilmer's understated, even detached performance is perfect for Bruce Wayne. You can tell that this movie was made in the 90s with the rich, delicious colours and the glow-in-the-dark lights (where applicable). The writing is reasonably clever, the theme of not letting revenge rule your life being a pretty central one, as well as Bruce Wayne and Batman's coexistence. As well as all that, Bruce Wayne (Val Kilmer) finds himself taking care of Dick Grayson (Chris O'Donnell), an acrobat orphaned thanks to Two-Face and with a vendetta against him.īatman Forever is a fun movie with a lot of character, lavish enough without going too far (such as Batman & Robin). Things get worse when misunderstood scientist Edward Nygma (Jim Carrey), under the alias the Riddler, teams up with Two-Face in his quest to bring Batman to his knees. Criminal psychologist Doctor Chase Meridian (Nicole Kidman) arrives in Gotham to help the authorities, and Batman (whom she immediately falls for) stop him. Harvey "Two-Face" Dent (Tommy Lee Jones) is Gotham City's former district attorney, losing his mind when doused with acid and now has a literal split personality (which the movie delights in underlining as literally as it can) with a personal vendetta against Batman. Unlike Batman & Robin, though, in Batman Forever the production values draw out the colourful character of everything. The set pieces, costumes and use of colour are amazing. The whole look of the movie is definitely A-plus. There is a sense of spectacle, of grandeur and character, to the whole movie. Messickīatman Forever is Joel Schumacher's first foray into Batman, and unlike the disastrous Batman & Robin, he pulls it off well here. Dauterive, Peter Macgregor-Scott, Benjamin Melniker, Kevin J.
